First I found out fast that my compressor would not keep up with the cut off
saw so I developed a new tool. The 10² no guard circular electric saw.
Just a regular saw with a few modifications. So using this saw I made the initial
rough cuts, I then refit the frame and marked the next cuts with tape.
Then came time to split the canopy. Go slow have some help and tape the front
half together underneath before starting. Also, tape the two halfs together
as you go this seems to help support the canopy while finishing the cuts.. !!!
Leave extra stock you can sand it off later. Better to have some extra than
none. This was almost a problem for me. I dropped the split cut on the outside
edge of the tape and it should have been on the tape with the edge even. Finish
the edges. A electric hand sander works well for this. I used 150 / 220 /400
for the finish pass.
Drilling the canopy is not that bad. Use clamps and duct tape to hold it into
position. Also, use masking tape on the frame to show the center of the tube,
It works. After drilling and clecoing the canopy on I refitted the canopy to
the fuselage. Mine spread at the rear about .200 on each side, so allow for
it. Plans state you can go back at this stage and adjust for it.
